National VA Conference & Awards Ceremony 2008 Saturday 19th April 2008

This event's Charity is Oxfam
Website: www.oxfam.org.uk
This year we are supporting OXFAM and their Wonder Woman Packages (see links below) which provide funds to teach women in third world countries to help them learn particular skills to enable them to set up businesses to support themselves. This is all very much in keeping with what the VA industry and training is all about.
Justine Curtis of the UKAVA.co.uk has worked with Oxfam and visited the Maasai people while in Kenya to work with Oxfam. Quote: Ndetia Koipa, Ololosokwan, Tanzania: “We used Oxfam loans to make beadwork to sell - those beads kept us alive when our cattle were dying.”
The women's businesses have since expanded, and it has seen younger women, rise to positions of authority in Maasai society. by following the links below you will be able to view the products that have been made by these women.
Oxfam will be attending the conference to present more information about the campaign, and all money raised from the raffle tickets sold on the day plus £1 from each ticket sold, will go towards funding this worthwhile campaign.
