Thanks to an upsurge in home working and online businesses, virtual coworking sessions are now increasing in popularity. Physical co-working spaces may have been around for a while, but they can often be distracting and expensive for home and remote workers. Luckily, virtual coworking sessions don’t have the same issues.

Virtual coworking sessions can give you an excellent opportunity to spend focused time on your business, whilst also interacting with other people – something many solopreneurs and work-from-home parents would otherwise miss out on.

What are virtual coworking sessions?

So what exactly is a virtual coworking session? It’s a chance for you to get together virtually with other remote business owners on a group call, where you all work on your individual projects for an allocated length of time.

When you first join a co-working session, you have the opportunity to state (either in the chatbox or verbally) what you’re going to work on during the session. The timer is then started, and you are all muted whilst you work. It’s up to you whether you have your camera on or off during this time. The session is usually split into two sections so that you can have a quick 5-minute break in the middle. At the end of the session, you can then share how you got on.

Virtual coworking sessions are awesome for accountability

Co-working sessions help increase your accountability. Not only do you post what you’re going to be working on, but there’s also the increased desire to ‘do well’ on the call, as everyone can see you!

Virtual coworking sessions are great for:

  • Increased productivity
  • Boosting your creativity
  • Networking opportunities
  • Making friends
  • Reducing the loneliness that can be associated with home working

You’ll be surprised how much more you can get done when you have a dedicated and focused period of time to work in.

They allow you to work on your business

Virtual coworking sessions give you a chance for some dedicated CEO time. As a Virtual Assistant, you can spend so much of your time on client work and generally working ‘in’ your business. But if you want your business to grow, you need to structure your working day so you can be working ‘on’ it as well – and that’s what co-working sessions can give you.

They give you the time to step outside of the usual day-to-day elements of your business. You can use them to gain the space and time you need, to focus on working on your business plans, strategies and goals.

As you can see above, virtual coworking sessions can be so great for your business. However, they only work well, if you’re strict with yourself! It’s far too easy to waste the time you have, catching up and chatting – so make sure you mute your mic and settle down to work. I’d also recommend leaving your camera on, as that can help ramp up the desire to look and be productive!
